Spring in Lupas Town

"Hey, why don't you head out to the forest to calm down?" my dad suggested, and I nodded.

"Daaad!" I called, walking down the stairs.
"Yeah?" He said, as he and my brother struggles to plug in the tv.
"Can I go to the forest? I want to check on my friend, she was sorta in a bad mood last time I saw her." I said.
"Sure. Just please try to hurry back. I don't want you to miss dinner again."
"Kay." I said running out the door and into the forest.

I yawned as I walked down the stairs. Suddenly, I realized nobody else was down there. Did I wake up really early? I looked out the window downstairs to see that it was still dark out. I wasn't tired anymore though. I ran out the door and phased behind a tree then ran into the forest.

I got home and yelled, "Peter, Deven!" [My dad's real name is Peter, but i rarely call him that.] No answer. Oh well. I thought, and headed upstairs, falling asleep in seconds.

I jumped out of bed, and phased in pure surprise, glad that I had because I realized i had not clothes on. At least no one was around. I raced out to the forest.

After phasing behind the tree, I ran inside to my house and looked at the clock. It read : 7:04 AM. Uh oh.
My dad sat on the couch, looking very angry.
"Where on earth have you been?" He said. "I woke up at 5 o clock in the morning and you weren't in your room. Now talk."
"I was in the forest." I said.
"Doing what? And why were you there since 5 o clock in the morning?" He asked, angrily and loudly.
"Well, I went out there early in the morning because I was... angry about something, and then I was running through the forest and I tripped and hit my head on something really hard so I didn't wake up until now but I hurried home as fast as I could." The lies spilled out.
"Why do I find that so hard to believe?" He asked.
"You can ask Ashley! She was the one who woke me up!" I said.
"Fine. Just go to your room and we'll talk about it later."
"Okay." I said and ran into my bedroom. Right when I got in I fell onto the mattress and went back to sleep.

I walked in and said, "Hey dad, really, we couldn't have picked a worse house right?" I was disgusted. "It's for your own good." "You KEEP saying that!" I growled. "I'm going out." I raced out and phased, wanting to get away from this place. I ran around, singing an annoying song that had gotten stuck in my head.

I walked inside, and flipped the light switch on. And there was Deven, standing there as if he'd been standing there all night, a slight frown on his face."WHERE have you been? It's like, what? 6:00 AM? Dad's out, so he put me in charge. He went looking for YOU!"
"Gosh Deven, you seem to be taking you being in charge very seriously."
"I am! Can't you tell?" He seemed a little dissppionted and very angry I hadn't noticed.
"I guess..."
"Tell me where you were for like, a day or somethin'!"
"Well, I came home and I think it was last night like midnight, and you guys weren't home!"
"Maybe we were just sleeping."
"Yeah, anyway, Gina was really upset and angry about something, and I went to this hotel where one of her cousin had her friend that hurt her in some way--can't remember-- and yeah, that's about it. She wanted me to stay longer, sooo..."
"I see. "

"How's your head?" My brother, John asked.
"Feels a lot better." I said, dropping the book I was reading.
"Good." He said. It was silence for a few seconds because no one knew what to say. Then John said, "Did you lie to dad? Did you really trip?"
"I didn't lie." I replied. "I passed out after hurting my head. You can ask Ashley, she found me in the woods laying on the ground."
"Whatever." He said, leaving my room.

"Do you think, or can I, Mr. Deven, go see Gina?" I said, hands on my hips.
"Hey! Sure."
"Thanks."
I headed over to Gina's house, and knocked on the door.

"I'll get it!" I hollered down the steps and ran down.
I opened the front door to see Ashley. "Oh... hey." I said.

"OK, let me just say that I haven't taken sides, and I want you to show me what happened while we're both phased, but you don't have to."

"Yeah, I didn't really think you were taking sides. And um sure... but why do we have to be phased..?"

"You can show me with your thoughts. Thoughts are more . . . truthful, i guess."

"Um okay. Lets go to the forest I guess."
Uh oh I thought before I phased.

"'Kay." I said. I walked by the side of Gina's house, took off my clothes, and phased.

I phased behind a tree then tried to think truthfully that I didn't start the fight. But thoughts can't lie. The scene were I lunged onto Drew played over in my head and I knew it played in Ashley's too.

"You have a car?" I asked Gina. "Oh yeah, can you stop by my house so Deven and my dad won't get angry again?"

"Me? Have a car?" I said, laughing. "Yeah right. But my dad said we can use his truck. I don't have a license but no one will notice. And sure we can stop at your place."
I started the engine.

"Thanks, but you look old enough." I said, laughing a little bit.

I laughed. "I know. Thats why I won't get caught."
Soon we were at Ashley's house. "I'll wait in here." I said.

"Ok." I jumped out of the car, and ran inside my house. Grabbing some money that for some weird reason just happened to lying on the counter, I yelled, "Deven, Dad, I'm going to a movie with Gina, Be back soon!"

When she got back in the car I started up the engine again turned on the radio.
