Spring in The Forest

Freaked out and scared, I didn't know what had happened to me. I now a wolf, a giant dog. Was this change a forever kinda thing? Was I gonna be like this FOREVER? I freaked out ever more at the thought, and now I was in the middle of nowhere, thanks to my "smart" brain. I walked around, whimpering and whining like a scared coward, which I pretty much was right now.

I leaped onto a tree and climbed to the top. At the top of this tree I felt on top of the world. I knew that if anyone in my family saw me I would be in big trouble for "putting our kind in danger of discovery". I hated when my parents called vampires "our kind". I sat up on top of a sturdy branch and watched the nearby leaves brustle in the wind. I sighed and sat up there for much longer, letting go of the world.

I lifted my nose and smelled the air. Something smelled weird, it burned my nose!!! I snarled, and looked around for whatever it was.

From atop the tree I heard a strange noise. Then i smelt it... the smell of a werewolf. My sister was right. And now I was close. I didn't know if it were Ashley or a different werewolf. So I stayed atop the tree and looked down hoping to see something... or someone. I knew I should probably leave or trouble would start. And I knew that somebody would come looking for me, most likely Gabe. So I slowly climbed down.

I looked up, and realized my hearing, sight, and smell was enhanced. I spotted a person--or at least i thought it was a person-- climbing down a tree. I snarled a bit, and loped slowly forward near the tree.

The werewolf was coming closer. I could sense it. I ran back towards the direction of my house. It was going to follow me. I knew it. So I ran faster. I pushed myself faster as my long, black hair flew backwards.

Who was it?! I snarled because it was getting away, so I pushed myself hard, and was surprised at the speed at which I ran. I expected everything to be a blur, but it was surprisingly focused. Was that, Aubrey? Whoa! I had to talk to her!

I ran faster, knowing that whoever this was would not follow me onto my own home lot. Or at least I hope not. Then I had a plan. I jumped onto a random, tall tree. Can't get me up here, can you? I sighed when I got to the top and watched from above.

The burning in my nose suddenly faded a bit, and I stopped, dirt flying into the air. I looked around, and then I looked up. There was Aubrey. Why was she here, in the forest? I opened my mouth to speak,but nothing came out. I whimpered sadly. I didn't know if Aubrey knew it was me or not.

Suddenly I knew that the wolf was gone. So I hopped down and air pushed against me. I ran back to my house quietly but quickly. When I got home I could see from outside (by peering in the window) everything was normal. I had been gone for 2 hours. They looked at me. Nobody noticed the faint scratches on my arms and my hair being as messy as it was.

Panting, suddenly I realized I was getting smaller. I looked at my hands and realized I was human again. That sucked. Then I realized also that I didn't have any clothes on. I ran back to my ohuse, blushing bright red.

I smelled the air, and smelled for Aubrey. I couldn't smell her or see her. I think next I fell asleep because my sharp vision faded out. When I awoke, I realized I had to get home quick so I could go to school. Sure I didn't want to be there, but I had to talk to Ashley. Then I would skip school.

I slipped off my clothes and phased, feeling a bit odd. I felt bad that I left Aubrey at school.

I climbed to the top of a tree, like the day before, and watched from above. The first sight of an animal I saw I would pounce on. But not a wolf...

I paced around, and my nose burned slightly again. Aubrey was here, and why did it always do that with my nose? I was confused, and looked around for Aubrey. My senses alert, I felt that Aubrey was near.

Suddenly, the air stenched of werewolf. I knew I could not hide this for long and one way or another she would find out soon. So I hopped off from the top of the tree, I was practically flying. I looked around for her. I had to follow my nose.
"Aubrey!" I shouted "I know you can't talk but if you hear me howl or something!"

I heard Aubrey's voice. How'd she know?! Oh well, I howled real loud and long, wondering why she asked me to do that.

I followed the sound of her howl.
"Ashley I don't have much time to tell you this. I am hunting so my time is limitted." I started, talking rather fast. "I am a vampire. So is my family. You probably can smell us from far away. We have a thing against werewolves. Because werewolves kill vampires because they think we are dirty bloodsuckers. But my family don't kill humans. Just animals. And thats what I am doing now. I am hunting for animals - for blood. Now I must go. If you need more explaining I will find you later."
And with that I was off. I ran away, chassing a deer off into the trees, away from Ashley.

Whoa whoa whoa! I thought, of course I couldn't talk, and plus Aubrey was already gone. That was . . . strange. I thought as I tried to de-phase and find my clothes. Once I did, I followed the burn in my nose--though it didn't work as well since my wolf nose was so much sharper--and waited when the burn got stronger, because I knew I shouldn't get too close. I leaned with my back against a tree, trying to keep a safe distance. Aubrey could find me if she wanted to.

After killing several animals I decided to head home. I knew that I would have to get past Ashley unless I wanted more trouble but I might as well answer her questions. So I went off looking for her.

I waited and wondered where she was. I began to figure she had gone off somewhere, so I yelled "Aubrey!" once and then walked off in a random direction.

I heard her call my name and I followed the direction of the sound, running faster and faster until I saw her.
"Can I help you?" I asked when I saw her.

"Oh, just wondering where you were, if you had run off or somethin'. You said the 'rest of my family.' Could I meet them, or would they not like me, or what?" I asked, waiting for her answer.

"Uh yeah I don't really think that would be the best idea. But you probably will or have seen them at school. I gotta run now... bye." I said and ran back to my house.

"Thought so. Well, bye." I slowly followed her at a great distance, until I saw her house. Then I raced back to my house.
